The ASA difference.

The American Society of Appraisers is the most respected appraisal organization in the world. ASA appraisers are trained by experts, tested for competence and prepare reports in accordance with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Lee Willis is an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers and holds an aircraft-specific Machinery & Equipment Specialty certificate from the ASA.

What is the American Society of Appraisers?

The ASA is a nonprofit organization that was established to create an effective professional affiliation of appraisers of all disciplines, who work cooperatively to elevate the standards of the appraisal profession. The ASA is recognized around the world as the gold standard for certifying and preparing appraisers in various industries.

Why choose an ASA appraiser?

ASA appraisers earn their designations only after completing rigorous coursework and examinations, a peer-evaluation process and more than five years of industry experience. They follow professional standards set forth by the Appraisal Foundation as well as ASAʼs own Code of Ethics to provide a credible, objective opinion of value. All ASA reports are USPAP compliant, meaning that government agencies, financial institutions and more will recognize the report as an accurate source of value.

What does it take to become designated?

An appraiser must invest in academic study, hands-on, full-time experience and must prove competency by passing qualifying examinations in valuation theory, ethics and at least one specialty. In addition, they must pass a peer-review approval of submitted appraisal reports. The ASA designation requires five years of full-time appraising experience, over 120 hours of appraisal related coursework, completion of the USPAP course, five different exams and a practical review of an appraisal performed by the candidate.

What is USPAP?

The Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) is the generally recognized ethical and performance standards for the appraisal profession in the United States. USPAP was adopted by the U.S. Congress in 1989, and contains standards for all types of appraisal services, including real estate, personal property, business and mass appraisal.
